10 Beautiful Engagement Photo Spots in Dallas, Texas

Engagement season runs from the end-of-the-year holiday months to a bit past Valentine’s Day. After popping the question, the next question is - where do your take your engagement photos? I am a wedding photographer based in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and these are my favorite spots to do an engagement session.

White Rock Lake: White Rock Lake is a tranquil setting for a photoshoot and also offers various backdrops of lush greenery, boat docks, and a peaceful lake.

Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden: Meticulously maintained gardens and colorful blooms create a romantic atmosphere that will fit any engagement session. There are so many different parts of this garden, so variety is never lacking. The only downside is that the garden closes at 5 pm, which means you may not get the “golden hour” sunset lighting in your photos.

Fort Worth Botanic Garden: This is a less crowded alternative to the Dallas Botanical Garden – the Fort Worth Botanic Garden has some of the most beautiful floral backdrops. I personally love the rose garden!

Downtown Dallas: If you prefer taking photos in an urban setting, Downtown Dallas has everything you’d want for a photoshoot location - historical architecture, gorgeous skyscrapers, night life, and the iconic romantic bustle of the city.

Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve: A smaller and lesser known park, Oak Point Park offers a beautiful lake, romantic wooden fences, and you don’t have to walk very far from the parking lot to get a perfect backdrop.

Arbor Hills Nature Preserve: This is a VERY popular photo spot especially during the spring and fall season, but thankfully it is very large so there’s room for everyone! Prepare to walk a bit before starting, but it’s an all-around wonderful nature setting for photos.

Mandalay Canal Walk: This spot feels like you’ve been transported to Europe, with cobblestone pathways and picturesque waterways. The downside is that the entire space is cast in yellow and green shadows, so skin tones can look murky and unflattering.

Adriatica Village: Experience all the European charm of #7 but with better lighting! This spot is smaller than #7 so it can get quite crowded, especially on weekends. I would recommend going on a weekday to make sure you get the best angles of the church in the background.

Crowley Park: Richardson's hidden gem, Crowley Park is known for its wildflower fields that bloom every springtime. Even when it’s not spring, this park is still a great choice for a clean, natural background.

Photo Studio: For a more intimate and personalized proposal experience, you can’t go wrong with booking a photo studio. There are many options, ranging from the blank white room studios like The Lumen Room, to more elaborate options like the curated art studios by Citizen Nomad.

There are so many options, including honorable mentions such as gorgeous speakeasy bars such as Atlas Bar and Ginger’s, the Fort Worth Stockyards, Downtown Fort Worth, and even planning your engagement session in your own home for a lifestyle-inspired shoot!
